Decibel Magazine is hosting the premiere of “Kirara Chainsaw,” from HOUKAGO GRIND TIME, the solo mincecore/goregrind act of Andrew Lee (Ripped To Shreds, Andrew Lee’s Heavy Metal Shrapnel, Skullsmasher). The song is the latest warning shot preceding the project’s impending third album, Koncertos Of Kawaiiness: Stealing Jon Chang’s Ideas, A Book by Andrew Lee, nearing release in August.

HOUKAGO GRIND TIME’s Koncertos Of Kawaiiness: Stealing Jon Chang’s Ideas, A Book By Andrew Lee was recorded and mixed by Andrew Lee at his home studio, The Weeb Dungeon, mastered at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves by Colin Marston (Gorguts, Artificial Brain, Krallice), and completed with cover collage and photography by Andrew Lee, logo and layout by Tom Maher (Skullbastard Art), and insert illustration by Makiko Suda.

“You Broke My Nutbladder” features guest vocals by Sleazy Derek and Mark Chen (both of Myxoma), “I Like Dubs Over Subs” features guest vocals from Joseph Schafer (Colony Drop) and Billy “Oi!” Smeer and a solo by Tom Maher (Mass Extinction, ex-Organ Dealer), and “Evolved Into Weebery” features guest vocals by Joe Warkentin (Archagathus).

With the “Kirara Chainsaw” single, Lee proclaims, “Rip and tear more like moe and kyun. Shamiko wielded her kirara chainsaw for your sins, so become a mazoku who can bakyunsify any guro!”

Decibel writes with the song’s debut, “Despite its silly title, Koncertos Of Kawaiiness hits with all the brutality one would expect from an album inspired by the likes of Archagathus, Dead Infection, Last Days Of Humanity and Haggus, as you’ll hear on new song ‘Kirara Chainsaw.’”

Formed in 2019, San Jose, California-based HOUKAGO GRIND TIME has deployed a substantial catalog of demos, EPs, and splits with underground grind stalwarts such as Deterioration, First Days Of Humanity, Blue Holocaust, Deterioration, Meatus, Real Life Ugly, Myxoma, Archaganini, and more. In 2020, the act’s debut album Bakyunsified (Moe To The Gore) was released through Selfmadegod Records, followed by the second album, Houkago Grind Time 2: The Second Raid, released in 2022 through Lee’s self-run Outrageous Weeb Power Productions. Since its release, the band began performing live, including the Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest pre-party earlier this year in conjunction with a release as part of the magazine’s flexi series.

Lee now presents HOUKAGO GRIND TIME’s Koncertos Of Kawaiiness: Stealing Jon Chang’s Ideas, A Book By Andrew Lee, which storms forth with a whirlwind of bowel churning vocals and hyperblasting trashcan snare. However, the album isn’t limited to just endless blasting punishment and moe anime samples, as stomping polka beats and virtuosic guitar solos inject just enough space for listeners to gasp for breath before drowning in filthy crust riffs. The natural all-acoustic all-real drum recording reveals a further evolution in Lee’s production skills, enveloped by the clear and warm drop-Z guitars. With the world so divided and turbulent, the only prescription is a double dose of friendship and cuteness, this record is guaranteed to warm your heart before ripping it out.
